⁃ Craving and chewing substances that have no nutritional value, such as ice, clay, soil or paper
⁃ It is an eating disorder typically defined as the persistent ingestion of nonnutritive substances for at least 1 month at an age for which this behavior is developmentally inappropriate. It may be benign or may have life-threatening consequences.
⁃ CAUSES
⁃ There's no single cause of pica. In some case,a deficiency in iron, zinc, or another nutrient may be associated with pica. For example, anemia or iron deficiency , may be the underlying cause of pica in pregnant women. Your unsual cravings may be a sign that your body is trying to replenish low nutrient levels.
