PICA DISORDER
⁃ Craving and chewing substances that have no nutritional value, such as ice, clay, soil or paper⁃ It is an eating disorder typically defined as the persistent ingestion of nonnutritive substances for at least 1 month at an age for which this behavior is developmentally inappropriate. It may be benign or may have life-threatening consequences.
⁃ CAUSES
⁃ There's no single cause of pica. In some case,a deficiency in iron, zinc, or another nutrient may be associated with pica. For example, anemia or iron deficiency , may be the underlying cause of pica in pregnant women. Your unsual cravings may be a sign that your body is trying to replenish low nutrient levels.
